Dental bonding is a dental prosthodontics procedure in which a durable plastic material called resin is matched to the color of the tooth and then applied to the tooth and hardened with a special light, which then bonds the material to the tooth. The dried resin is a permanent fixture and will restore and improve your beautiful smile, making you more confident and happier. Dental bonding is one of the quickest and easiest forms of dental prosthodontics.

This procedure is usually an aspect of cosmetic dentistry, as it is a fast and easy way to improve the appearance of your smile! Dental bonding can also be used as a form of dental treatment for various issues, for example as a filling to repair decayed teeth, to close spaces between teeth, or to protect the root of a tooth in the event of receding gums. Dr. Jose Lopez is experienced in many forms of dental bonding and other dental prosthodontics, and he will work with you to select the right treatment.

What to Expect During a Dental Bonding Procedure

The surface of your tooth will be roughened and Dr. Jose. Lopez will apply a conditioning liquid. This will help the resin adhere to the tooth. Next, the tooth-colored resin is applied, molded and smoothed out to the correct shape. A laser or UV light will then be used to harden the material and “bond” it to the tooth! Lastly, once the resin has hardened, it will be trimmed, shaped and polished to match the rest of the tooth’s surface.

This procedure usually only takes about 30-45 minutes and, unless you’re having a filling placed into a decayed tooth, you shouldn’t need any anesthesia!
